It is with deep sadness that we honor the life of Joseph “Scotty” Careccio, a retired Teaneck Police officer whose passing has left a profound sense of loss among family, friends, and fellow members of the law enforcement community. His life and career were defined by dedication, service, and the bonds he built along the way.
Officer Careccio, Badge #232, began his career with the Teaneck Police Department on July 29, 1991. Over the course of nearly three decades, he served his community with commitment and professionalism, earning the respect of colleagues and residents alike. His years on the force reflected a steady dedication to public safety and a willingness to serve with integrity.
Throughout his career, “Scotty” was known not only for his work ethic but also for the camaraderie he shared with fellow officers. In law enforcement, where trust and teamwork are essential, he was regarded as someone dependable—an officer others could count on in both routine duties and challenging situations. The friendships formed during his service became a lasting part of his legacy.
After retiring on January 1, 2021, Officer Careccio carried with him the respect and appreciation of those he served beside. Retirement marked the closing of a significant chapter, but his impact remained within the department and the community he helped protect.
To his family and loved ones, Joseph Careccio was far more than his badge. He was a cherished presence whose life was filled with relationships, shared experiences, and meaningful connections. A memorial service to honor his life will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Volk Leber Funeral Home. Friends, colleagues, and community members are invited to gather in remembrance and pay their respects.
